The insider who flipped the script on florist markup.
Before she built FlowerShopDeals, Linda Park spent eleven years negotiating bulk flower prices on the buy-side at 1-800-Flowers. She watched the same stems — the same roses out of Quito, the same dahlias from Holland — get marked up three times before they ever reached a customer's hand. So she left to fix it.
"The flowers weren't the problem. The layers between the grower and the gift were." — Linda Park

The Markup Problem
The bouquet you almost paid double for — and why.
Open the books on a $79 "classic dozen roses" at a major wire service. The flowers themselves — the actual roses, the greenery, the baby's breath — cost roughly $14 wholesale. The other $65 covers brand marketing, call-center labor, the national TV ad that runs every February 13th, and a fulfillment chain that bounces your order through a regional hub before a local florist ever sees it.
That's the markup nobody talks about, because the bouquet still arrives, and it still looks fine, and most customers never have a reason to compare. Linda did. She spent a decade on the other side of that line item.
FlowerShopDeals cuts the layers. We negotiate bulk wholesale rates directly with a vetted network of 12,400+ neighborhood florists in all 50 states, then pass the savings straight through — typically 20–40% below wire-service list. There is no national call center. No TV budget baked into your stems. No regional sorting hub. Your order goes from a real local florist's bench to the recipient's door, often within ninety minutes of you clicking checkout.
The result: hand-arranged bouquets by artisans who actually live in your recipient's city, at prices a wire service would never quote you. That is the whole idea.

How We Verify Savings
"32% cheaper" is a bold claim. Here's how we prove it.
Every Monday morning, an independent PriceSpider crawler checks the live list prices of identical SKUs — same stem counts, same vase included where applicable — at 1-800-Flowers, FTD, Teleflora, and BloomNation. The crawler matches each arrangement by recipient zip code so geography doesn't skew the comparison, then averages the median spread across our top 200 bouquets.
The result is published every Tuesday in our public pricing dashboard. If our average premium over a major wire service ever creeps above 5%, we adjust our prices within 24 hours. That promise is also written into our 10% price-match guarantee: bring us a verified lower quote from any legitimate competitor, and we'll beat it by 10% within a day.
Most weeks, we don't need to. The audit just confirms what 84,000 reviewers already noticed.

Petal It Forward
Sending flowers through us also spreads kindness — to someone you'll never meet.
In 2014, we launched Petal It Forward with a simple rule: 1% of every FlowerShopDeals order funds anonymous bouquet deliveries to nurses, teachers, first responders, and community caregivers nominated by our customers. The recipient never pays. The sender never knows exactly who got the flowers. The bouquet just shows up.
Ten years and $2.1 million later, that one line item in our checkout — a small slice of each order, no opt-in required — has delivered more than 184,000 surprise bouquets to people having a hard week. It is, in our opinion, the cheapest line item on the page and the one we are most proud of.
